Hi Everyone!!

Just wanted to update. My mom had her followup visit with her rectal/colon specialist today and he had some pretty good news for us. Her PET scan was clear and did not show that the cancer had spread anywhere else. He said from what he could see she was "borderline" when it comes to breaking through the wall though her LYmph nodes around the mass were large.

He seems to feel pretty strongly that the cancer is contained in the upper part of her rectum. He thought it would be best to forgo the chemo/radiation and to go ahead and do her surgery first. We have scheduled her surgery for Tues (halloween). She has to check in to the Hospital on Mon for her preop and a CAT scan (she has a shunt from hydrocephalis and they want to make sure it is fine before her surgery). If the CAT scan comes back good, they will do her surgery Tues morning. We were told that once he went in, he would send to lymph nodes to the pathologist and we should know before she is discharged if it is through the wall and/or has infected the lymph nodes. If so, she will have to have chemo (if the lymph nodes are infected), radiation (if it broke through the wall) or maybe both. I know we are still early in the game but we have a good feeling after meeting with the Dr. today. Please keep her in your prayers!!
